Effervescence
Available from the Artist
595mm x 420mm.
"The gorgeous russet autumn tones of Australia’s Eastern Spinebills, effervesce in and around the fuchsias as they seek out the nectar pods, symbiotically offering pollination, and so more flowers. The gorgeous fuschia of the Fuschias’ polished petals offers a sheltered playground for these sweet feeders. Bubbling and buzzing through the leaves and petals, the sheer ebullience of these beautiful little birds echoes the love, joyousness and excitement of life within us…..if we would only let go and let it effervesce…"

Aviatrice
Available from the Artist
Featured in 2020 Artists for Conservation book and world tour
570mm x 380mm
On Saunders Waterford CP (NOT). "She who dares to soar on her own, to brave the solo flight of life. Successes buoy the wings and ruffle the feathers, not afraid to fly alone, to stoop and plummet only to spread her wings, scream her achievement to the lonely skies, no need for an audience or applause. She seeks her soulmate, her mate for life who will have the courage to reach for the dizzy heights with her, hunt and provide, be proud of her courage, hug her close when she hurts…the aviatrice is perfectly attuned and comfortable with her space in the skies, dodging the clouds and storms of life."

Redbull
Available from the Artist
297mm x 210mm.
“The brilliant scarlet headed honeyeater visits our garden regularly, its shrill piping can be heard through the house. Now the bullrushes are growing in the quarry, they are visiting it as it is now full of water. Redbull is a very common pick-me-up , however the kick one may experience from it does not give the energy expended by these precious birds that are the smallest native honeyeater in Australia."

Monsoon
Available from the Artist
380mm x 560mm.
“The monsoon heralds a seasonal change bringing rain, and mating birds to the far north. Our beautiful pied herons nest during the monsoon season, visiting the wetlands for small frogs, fish and insects, whilst they raise their young. The monsoon can make people feel a little down if they are sunloving, or, like the herons, we can embrace the life-giving rain, the romance of a walk, lying in bed listening to the rumbling in the distance and the pattering of water on the roof, watch with rapt wonder at the thunder of the falls. Like most things in life, it all depends on how you look at it, and how you choose to live with it. Each year I choose to welcome the monsoon and all the creatures, life and wonder it brings."

Rainbow Warrior
Available from the Artist
Selected by Jury for the Top 32 in The Australian Watercolour Muster 2025. "Like jewels sparkling in sunlight, delicate and ethereal the colours of the Rainbow Bee-eater are as glorious as its aerobatics, soaring and diving on dagger-like wings, a ballet of predation. Hunting the greatest of all predators, the dragonfly, these winged warriors thrill us with their happy chirrups and magnificent arial displays. Frequently visiting my garden they are attracted by the insects pollinating our Azaleas, named for the nymph Azaela, transformed into the flower by Artemis

The Life Within

Serenity
Sold
“ The dawn brings a flush of first light, staining the skies and bringing a quiet hush. The mist floats and burns off with the day. Before the dawning breeze ruffles the water, a shimmer of promise for a glorious day whispers across the bay.”

The Light Within
Available from the Artist framed
510mm x 310mm "Our Southern Boobook Owls are one of the smallest in Australia and not endangered... except they are, from barbed wire fences, cats, encroachment on habitat, poisons for rodents, and their usual predators. As a rescuer, we get these little fellows reported and usually it is a fractured wing or leg, rendering it impossible to fly. FInding tree hollows in which to nest, they quietly go about their business, their soft "boo book, boo book" calling through the still night. Representative of wisdom, learning, transition and change, and spiritual growth. As with most of us, we strive for these things, unseen by others, perhaps unknown be those closest to us, nevertheless what shines most brightly, if one truly sees, is the light within."

Guardian Angel
Available from The Longworth Gallery, Santa Fe
510mm x 360mm “We all like to think we have a guardian angel watching over us, perhaps someone near and dear who has passed, or a spiritual being sent from on high to keep us safe.
But there are those on earth too, in our own plane of existence, who may be our guardian angel, and we may already know, recognise and revere them. Our Guardian Angel is one who constantly thinks about our welfare, protecting us from pitfalls without any expectations of anything in return . Their unconditional love and concern epitomized even after their demise makes them our Guardian Angels for ever. Do you have a Guardian Angel?? Shhh, perhaps they are standing right next to you.”

Choir of Angels
Available The Longworth Gallery, Santa Fe
500mm x 780mm = 20”x30” The word “angelos” in Greek means “messenger”. Angels are purely spiritual beings and are represented throughout the Bible as a body of spiritual beings intermediate between God and men. Many people indigenous and non, believe these glorious birds are messengers from their departed loved ones, come to comfort and help the living through their pain. To hear angels sing is thought to be a spiritual or mystical experience, possibly one of guidance, reassurance, comfort, hope, positivity and joy. When one hears cardinals sing, their delightful chirrups and whistles bring a smile to the face and all these feelings well up. The bible says there are nine choirs of angels ranked in order of their duties. So why only seven in this painting, where are the other two? what could it mean? Angels or no, they are truly uplifting and heart-swelling creatures.

A Bird in the Hand Series - "Four Score & Seven"
360mm x 260mm “Birds and animals have the most incredible ability to find a way to fit into our world. Looking in all nooks and crannies for a possible home site the pair line the cavity with twigs and grass and sometimes feathers. Once endangered due to competition for nesting sites with sparrows and other introduced species, they have now made a come back.
The bird in the hand series is created to remind us that often what we have is more precious than what we think we need or deserve, and that what we have will ultimately bring us the happiness we crave, we just need to open our eyes and re-evaluate our values.
The Bluebird of happiness is a symbol of enlightenment and knowledge, happiness and a messenger of hope to many all over the world. Four Score & 7 is 87, the number of steps to the Lincoln Memorial and the opening of the Gettysburg Address, so it is only fitting that Bluebirds should set up their home in such an important site as a reminder of the hope and happiness the First Fathers enjoyed when carving out a new way of life. “

Athena
Available The Longworth Gallery, Santa Fe
560mm x 380mm = 22.05” x 14.96” "The Goddess of art, justice, wisdom, learning and purity. What better patron for an artist. Her symbol was the owl, a brilliant huntress, predator, filled with wisdom, symbolising transformation, intuitive development, prosperity and good luck. Bonding for life, these owls are wonderful parents, both caring for the young owlets. These incredibly adaptable creatures will make their home in nearly all habitats, learning to live with humans and the change we bring. On silent wings, their sonorous calls echo through the stillness until, triumphant they bring their booty home. Their honour and devotion to each other and the young they rear has much to teach us."

Flying Blind
Available The Longworth Gallery, Santa Fe
Full sheet deckle edge watercolour 57cm x 76cm = 22.5” x 30”. "It is not essential for owls to see, the disk shape of their facial feathers act as a reflector channelling sound to their ears. The owl then turns its head in that direction to pinpoint the location, whilst appearing to fly blind in all weather; in fact they have no need of our GPS or VOR systems. The Snowy Owl is listed as vulnerable. As it negotiates it’s way through the changing landscape, despite its excellent navigation skills, it is flying blind in terms of it’s future, as are we in our shrinking and changing world."
